Otitis Externa is an outer ear infection, it is sometimes known as swimmers ear. It is caused by bacteria or fungi that invade the ear under unusually moist or wet conditions. Exposure to water moistens the skin in the ear canal and provides the ideal environment for bacteria to grow. As a result frequent swimming will increase your chance of an infection.
Symptoms
Itchiness of the ear
Discharge from the ear
Pain in the ear made worst by moving the ear lobe or moving the jaw
Temporary reduced hearing
Slight fever
Inflammation of the ear
Can you avoid ear infections?
Try to prevent excess water going in the ear when swimming or showering. Konfidence make aqua bands – ear bands that keep water out of ears and help prevent ear infections.
